So, it's September - and what are we supposed to wear? It's been chilly in the mornings - even some rain here and there - but then the afternoons have been sunny, bright and warm. I'm definitely relieved the intense heat has left us but this transitional time can be a tricky one for us to dress for.
I thought I'd give you some inspiration for outfits you can go to when it's Autumn in the morning and Summer in the afternoon.
1. A dress and sweater/jumper
Wearing a sweater with a dress gives us so much wear out of things which we already have in our wardrobe. It's easy to forget that a dress can double up as a skirt and so this combo can be ideal for this changeable weather. The jumper provides necessary warmth and comfort in the mornings but you can whip it off as soon as the sun comes out. Bliss! I've done a few reels on this on my Instagram - you can see one of them here.
I've also done a reel showing you a trick if you need to keep your jumper at a certain point on the dress - I'll link it here.
2. A blazer
Blazers are such a versatile item in your wardrobe. Whether you prefer yours colourful, oversized, decorated, black.... The list goes on. There was a time when I might have been talking about a cardigan here - but a blazer is a much more modern, up to date and stylish update to this transitional look.
A blazer can be thrown over a t-shirt, blouse, dress, etc. to give you a bit more coverage if it's a chilly start to the day - but can then be removed later on in the day. Here's a reel I've done to show you how versatile a blazer is.
3. Layers
Layers are your friend in this transitional time. This can be wearing a vest top underneath your t-shirt or wearing cycling shorts under a long skirt. A word of caution however - make sure your layers are breathable if you tend to get hot. For instance, wearing a polyester vest under a cotton t-shirt might result in you feeling hot and sweaty quite quickly. There's more on this here .
But otherwise layer up to keep warmer in the mornings. It could be that you pop on a cool denim shirt over a t-shirt (almost giving a denim jacket vibe) but it can easily be slung over your shoulders or around your waist if necessary.
I hope this has given you some inspiration for what you can wear in this changeable weather. I'm sure you have options in your wardrobe - you might just need to allow yourself 5 minutes to pause and really have a think (easier said than done I know!).
