How Colour Analysis can Boost your Style and Self-Esteem

As a busy professional I'm sure you've experienced the power of wearing the right outfit. It can do wonders for your confidence. It can give you that spring in your step as you step outside your front door and help you feel like you're ready for what the day is going to throw your way. Colour plays a big part in these power outfits - I'm sure you can think of examples of where you've worn a particular colour and it's given you that boost you needed. It might be a colour that helps you to feel confident going in to deliver a pitch or presentation. Perhaps you know you've a tough day ahead and you choose a colour which will help reflect that mood. A colleague compliments you on how the colour looks gorgeous on you or someone commented on how your eyes really stand out. It really can transform your self esteem and style giving you the edge you need.

Colours have the power to influence our emotions and perceptions. They also have the power to influence how those around us react towards us. Wearing colours that harmonise with your natural features can make your skin appear more radiant, your eyes brighter and your overall appearance more vibrant. In contrast, you might find that other colours (I'm reluctant to say "wrong colours" here) can wash you out or make you look tired.

Boosting your Style and Self-Esteem with the Right Colours:

  • Enhances Style - As I've said before when you wear colours that suit and harmonise with you and your natural colourings, you'll look healthier and more vibrant.

  • Streamlines Shopping - Knowing your best colours can simplify your shopping experience, helping you make more confident choices and avoid costly mistakes. I saw a client last weekend who excitedly told me how she had brought her wallet with her recently shopping and it made her much more efficient when considering purchases. I was thrilled to hear this!

  • Allow for Wardrobe Cohesion - There's been much made about capsule wardrobes on social media and if you're able to achieve one, good on you. But I think they're harder to achieve than is sometimes publicised. However, a colour-coordinated wardrobe is achievable once you know your palette. It makes it easier to mix and match, giving you more outfit options and making dressing a stress-free process.

  • Enhances Professional Presence - In the workplace, the right colours can enhance your professional image, making you appear more authoritative, approachable, or creative, depending on your goals. For instance, blue can evoke feelings of tranquility, security and calmness. But, I don't think it will surprise you to hear it can also create feelings of aloofness and sadness. So wearing the right blue for you can really impact you and those around you.

But don't just take my word for it. Here are some words from a client of mine following discovering her best colours:

" I have very little self-confidence in choosing my clothes and feeling confident and comfortable especially when trying to alter styles slightly or introducing new colours. Recently I have been so busy with one thing and another I started to feel like I was throwing on the same old things every day and not making an effort in my appearance.  I thought I could really use some advice but it took a while to go for it.  I had a graduation dinner to attend the week after you came to advise me on colours. When shopping for a new outfit, I only looked for colours and styles which we discussed would suit me best. I ended up wearing a teal coloured top with some added sparkle and I had several positive comments on how my top was gorgeous and brought out the colour in my eyes.  I have more confidence when I know a colour looks good on me, I think I may have been a little more chatty and loud at dinner (sorry to my classmates!). It was so nice to receive the sample booklet of colours afterwards, it is very handy to take shopping (which I have done already)."
