Value for Money?

Updated: May 17, 2022

What to write in a blog…..

It’s tricky to know what is worth people’s time – I know I certainly don’t often commit to reading a blog so I had a think about what I’d like to know more about if I was thinking about spending some time with a personal stylist.

At the moment we’re so consumed by thoughts about money – don’t you think? Energy bills and food bills are easy ones to single out – and for many of us our salary is not increasing. So, if I am purchasing anything at the moment I want to know that it is value for money.

As I have said before I strongly believe in the effect of spending time with a personal stylist.

I’ve been there. I had just had a baby and could see people around me who looked confident, happy in how they presented themselves and knew their identity. I wanted that feeling back. I wanted to feel pleased with what I saw in the mirror. My body shape had changed and I was ok with that – but I now wanted to feel happy and confident in my appearance – which in turn I knew would help my mental wellbeing. How much is that worth?

So, what happens once you get in touch with me for a Wardrobe Edit?

Firstly, we’ll have a free, no obligation chat. This is where I find out more about you – what are you hoping to get out of the experience, how do you tend to spend your days, what colours do you tend to wear, what styles are you drawn to, etc. I’ll try to glean lots of information from you so that I can get some background work done, should you decide you’d like to work with me. If you feel comfortable to, I’ll ask you to send me a photo so that I can see your skin tone, hair and eye colour if I've not met you before.

Having this information will allow me to look at what colours I think would work best for you, like a mini colour analysis. I will bring my colour drapes to your home but by having this information in advance it will mean I’m making the most of your time on the day as I will already have chosen some colours for you. From what you have told me in our chat, I can also put together a Pinterest board with some ideas in advance of our appointment.

On the day, we’ll start with a chat (preferably with tea!) so that we can get to know each other and I can again ascertain what you want to get out of the Wardrobe Edit (e.g. do you want to declutter, put more “looks” together, discover what gaps are in your wardrobe, etc.). I will show you what colours and styles I think will work well for you, given what I learned from you in our initial chat.

Then we hit the wardrobe! This is a case of trying on lots/all of your clothes in different combinations. I will suggest how certain items can be styled, tailored or altered slightly to suit you better. We all have some emotional attachment to our clothes too – perhaps an item that you remember wearing on a special occasion – and it can be helpful sometimes to have someone (me!) who is removed from that emotion if you need a nudge in one direction or another. I can help show you how best to store certain clothes and other tips and trick. I should say that the Wardrobe Edit itself can take 3+ hours. I like to point this out so that clients are prepared! It's a tiring process but so worth it in the end.

During the edit I will be making notes – perhaps some items that I can think you could look out for the next time you’re in the shops for example. Following our appointment, I will drop you an email with some hints and suggestions for you to refer to in the future. If you find the Pinterest board useful, I can add to that for you to refer to also.

So, I guess my point in this blog is to show you the process of a Wardrobe Edit. It isn’t just about the 3+ hours when I am in your home and I really believe it is good value for money. There will be work going on in the background before and after to give you a complete and enjoyable service which I hope will leave you feeling happy, body confident and proud of who you are - what price do you put on that? It will also save you money in time as you will see that you actually have plenty in your wardrobe to wear - most of us do! You're just now able to wear things in a different way. But when you do make a purchase in the shops, it will be a conscientious decision - it will be an item that fits in well with the rest of your wardrobe and will give you good value for money. At a time when we're all trying to think and shop in a more environmentally friendly way this is something we've all got to move towards.

Thanks for reading - feel free to get in touch if you've any questions or comments. I'd love to hear! Lou x
