For many of us, the latest catwalk trends are not something we consider as part of our everyday lives - or wardrobes. Quite frankly, we've enough to be doing without having to think about the Autumn/Winter 2023 trends. Yes, there was a time when we loved to copy the look of one of the Spice Girls or All Saints (first time around thank you very much) but perhaps not so much now.
However, whether we like it or not - or even realise it or not - the high street fashions are influenced by trends which are defined by the catwalks. So here's a flavour of some of the trends of Autumn/Winter 2023 which we'll start seeing online and on the high street.
1. Tartan
Traditional check was seen a lot on the runways in the form of blanket capes, knitwear and chunky scarves.
Tartan may have had a resurgence due to the death last year of Dame Vivienne Westwood. It has always been synonymous with her gothic, punk energy and the tributes are to be seen in the coming months.
If you feel like a tartan coat might be a bit much, look out for tartan in the form of handbags like this one from River Island.
Or there's this elegant scarf from Mango which is a gentle nod to tartan. It's in gorgeous fresh colours giving it a modern look and would look great over a crisp white shirt and navy jeans.
2. Metallics
A friend of mine once said I was like a magpie as I'm always drawn to shiny things and so this trend makes me very happy! I love a metallic and the great thing about this trend is that it's available in all colours - to suit all colour tones.
Personally I love the silvers (like these cute Mary Janes from Mango) and this skirt from Mint Velvet.
But there are other options like these gorgeous heels from Oliver Bonas in a stunning metallic teal. And remember metallics are not just for Christmas!
3. Sheer
Stay with me here.... I know see-through is not for everyone. I, for one, will not be showing my midriff in a sheer vest top anytime soon. Or ever.
However, it is undeniable that sheer was very visible on the runways and we will be seeing this trend for Autumn/Winter 2023.
There are very wearable options for "sheer" such as long sleeved tops which offer coverage over the body. Another really fun way to wear this trend is with socks - a simple way to jazz up a pair of trainers or loafers. Oliver Bonas have a great selection of fun sheer socks such as these.
Mint Velvet also have this lovely vest top with sheer detail on the front - quite wearable.
4. Tailoring
If you've been thinking for a while about investing in the waistcoat trend, it's not going anywhere. Similarly, a great fitting white/light shirt is still a brilliant investment and they were seen a lot on the runways. I'm including "light" here for those whom white might be a bit stark for and so a great light colour also works for this look. A great white/light shirt will always be a fail safe element in your wardrobe.
There was lots of monochrome tailoring on show for the Autumn/Winter 2023 catwalks. It's a classic look which looks sharp but is very wearable. Tess Daly was recently seen wearing this look on Strictly Come Dancing with faux leather trousers. So elegant.
I love this blazer from Mango - the angled detail on the hem is gorgeous.
If monochrome is a bit drab for you, don't forget, as always, you can put your own spin
on this tailored look by playing with the colour - such as this gorgeous neon tank top from Oliver Bonas.
Of course there are many more trends showing for Autumn/Winter 2023 but I hope this has given you a taste for some of what we'll be seeing in the coming months. Any of these take your fancy? I'd love to hear what you think - do you ignore trends as you're completely comfortable in your style? Or do you often end up being influenced as much as you try not to be (I know I fall into this category!)? Drop me an email to tell me your thoughts.
