Burgundy is the New Black: 9 Chic Ways to Rock it

Burgundy, maroon, oxblood - whatever you call it, it's everywhere at the moment. You may have noticed this latest trend on social media and it's definitely very visible in the shops right now. Burgundy is a great alternative to black, navy and grey as a dark neutral. It can be worn with so many colours (as I'm about to show you) and can really look quite chic and elegant.

However, a few caveats before we rock this look...

  • Remember, there is no need to follow "trends" - it is much more sustainable and practical to follow colours which speak to you and work for your palette. In fact, I would discourage you from going clothes shopping and buying all the burgundy just because it is now considered fashionable. I'm showing you ideas which are transferrable to colours which you may already have in your wardrobe such as navy, teal or a dark green.

  • Also, there are various shades of this colour so consider your palette and choose accordingly - e.g. you might want more of a pinky maroon if you're in the summer palette.

  • You'll also notice some items deliberately repeated to show how these things can be mixed and matched.

So burgundy doesn't have to be so school uniformy after all! Personally speaking I'm not a huge lover of burgundy on myself as it reminds me so much of my secondary school uniform (which was referred to as maroon) and now it's quite similar to what I wear for scrubs in the hospital. However, I love it on others and think it can be quite elegant and chic. It's a great alternative to black and really goes so well with lots of colours.

If you'd like to go a bit more in depth with clothes, style and colour remember a Wardrobe Edit is one way we can work together. As a personal stylist I love delving into wardrobes to find combinations and outfits with clothes you already own. I can help you discover (or rediscover!) your style so that you can feel more confident in your skin. We can have a good ole declutter and create a shopping list if there are any gaps in your wardrobe. If you'd like to hear more let's have a chat!

Speak to you soon,
