I promised a few more tips for shopping the latest Autumn/Winter trends - in fact these tips work anytime you're shopping. Some may seem obvious but I know I sometimes need a gentle reminder - so that hopefully I don't get swept away and end up purchasing something which just doesn't work for me or won't serve me well. So, let's get down to it...
1. Is it similar to something you already have?
You may have heard me before talk about the value of keeping a shopping list on your phone. And it's for moments like this. We've all done it - you come home with a fab new grey t-shirt only to realise that you have something very similar in your wardrobe already! However, if you keep a list on your phone of items which you need in your wardrobe the likelihood of this happening is greatly reduced.
2. Does the new item work for your style?
The reason I've put this point here is because it is quite easy to buy something which looks stunning on the mannequin - or it might be a jacket you've seen on an influencer on social media (been there, done that!). But this doesn't mean it'll work for you and your style. So by being sure of what your style is you can ensure a new purchase is a solid purchase for you and your wardrobe. I've mentioned the 3 Style Word method before but another simpler option for pinning down your style is to think of someone's style you admire and want to emulate. Do you love Holly Willoughby's feminine, floaty style? Dawn O'Porter's vintage looks? Joanne McNally's athleisure vibe? Whoever it is - would they wear this jacket that you're considering and therefore does it fit with the style you're looking for?
3. Can you afford it?
I know this is obvious, but I think it's an important point to make. I know how tempting it can be to buy something you love, but is it worth creating debt for
yourself on your credit card, or giving yourself a stressful week before payday as you're a bit tight for cash? You might set yourself a budget before you hit the shops. Or another tactic is to make a note of what you've seen (and your size) and then keep an eye on pre-loved sites for it to appear on there. Most highstreet clothing does and you can save yourself some pennies. We're coming up to Christmas at the moment - could you ask for it as a Christmas present or for some vouchers?
So that's it for my essential tips for shopping the Autumn/Winter trends. I really hope these tips have been useful - even if some were just reminders. Have you made any purchases? Or have you your eye on something? Hit reply to this email to fill me in - I'd love to hear! Otherwise hope you're managing the changing weather and keeping warm! Until next time,
