10 Ways Colour Analysis Creates Impact

Personal stylist draping colours onto a client's shoulders

I've said it before, I'll say it again - colour analysis is so much more than putting an item of clothing on and feeling "nice". There is power in wearing a great outfit, feeling like you can take on the world and colour analysis can be a part of that process. I don't feel my job is to find you a palette so that you can look nice, I want to help you feel empowered, confident and up for whatever challenge is thrown at you that day.

With that in mind, I’d like to show how knowing your personal colour palette, and recognising its impact on your mood, can create meaningful changes in your daily life.

"Colours are forces, radiant energies that affect us positively or negatively whether we are aware of it or not." Johannes Itten, "The Art of Color".

  1. Quicker Shopping

Starting off with quite a tangible one here, but recognising those colours that make you feel good really makes shopping so much more efficient and swift. And who doesn't want a bit of that?! Time and time again, I hear from clients how overwhelming clothes shopping can be. But once you have an understanding of what colours work for you, you really can be so much more thrifty with your time and energy. By just doing a quick scan of a rail, you can easily discern if there is anything there worth your time.

  1. Improves Shopping Decisions

Staying on the shopping theme, identifying the colours that make you feel great allows you to make savvy shopping choices rather than getting swept up by a bargain. We've all done it, bought something because the offer was too good to miss only to find the item just doesn't really work for you and wasn't the best use of your hard earned cash. As a personal stylist I want you to spend mindfully and only add things to your wardrobe which will deserve their place and provide you with value.

  1. Increases Wardrobe Harmony

An understanding of your colour palette allows you to have a wardrobe which works well within itself. Many items will easily mix and match as there is cohesiveness within your wardrobe. I often hear from clients they'd like to have a capsule wardrobe (my opinion on capsule wardrobes is for another day!) and one element of a capsule wardrobe is a palette whose elements work harmoniously with each other.

  1. Boosts Self Confidence

This! In creating your bespoke colour wallet for you, and helping you understand what you enjoy wearing, it allows you to show up and feel good. We know that feeling good does wonders for our self confidence and self esteem. When we're feeling good in our own skin, it then allows us to show up as our best version of ourselves - for our families, friends, work colleagues, etc.

"If you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you play good". Deion Sanders (random to quote an American Football coach, but it's in a book I have!).
  1. Improves First Impressions

They say a first impression is made within 7 seconds of meeting someone. Incredible really and this ties into the previous point. If we're feeling like we are presenting ourselves as we would hope, it allows us to make a great first impression and start as we mean to carry on rather than starting off on the back foot and trying to alter someone's perception of you. Colour can really play a part in those first impressions and allow you to make the impact you want and choose.

  1. Personal Branding

Perhaps something which is more relevant if you are running your own business or if you often have to present yourself (online or in person), but using harmonious colours consistently can be really impactful in your personal branding. If you want people to remember you (or your brand) being deliberate with your colour palette can be a really powerful, but understated, way of presenting yourself.

  1. Psychology of Colours

When I do a colour analysis I always refer to the psychology of colours. It's a fascinating area to consider and delve into - and not just for your clothes either. There are some really interesting ways you can impact mood and ambience within your own home too if you consider colour psychology. For example, purple has the shortest wavelength and is thought to influence our parasympathetic nervous system. It therefore calms us and relaxes us - and is the perfect colour to wear if meditating or trying to relax. (Forbes-Bell, S. "Big Dress Energy" Big Dress Energy - Fashion Is Psychology).

  1. Reduces Waste

A curated palette allows you to be more intentional with your shopping. I always encourage my clients to shop mindfully and with purpose. Unfortunately, nowadays this is something we have to be aware of due to the significant impact the fashion industry has on the environment. Ensuring we are making solid purchases which will provide us with value for years to come is a must and something we really have to strive for.

  1. Helps Make-Up Decisions

You know by now I'm a big fan of lipstick. Using a great lipstick is such an impactful way to lift your outfit and your mood. But I often hear how intimidated or scared women are of choosing the right shade. During a colour analysis we discuss warm or cool shades and while I don't (yet) provide a make-up consultation this can also guide your lipstick choice. Should you go for a coral or orange-based red? Or would a pink or berry shade be more favourable? Your personalised colour wallet can help.

  1. Communication of Your Personality

Style persona is an inevitable part of the conversation whatever service I'm offering a client. It's such a key part of the jigsaw to building self confidence. The use of colour is a subtle way to express elements of your personality. Whether you consider yourself to be an introvert or an extrovert colours can express warmth, boldness, softness or sophistication without you having to say a word.

If you'd like to create your own bespoke, personalised colour wallet and experience some of these incredible benefits, what are you waiting for? Drop me a message and let's get a date in the diary. I'd love for you to enjoy these effects as many of my clients have:

"My biggest change is that I just feel more at ease when shopping for myself now, knowing my colours, no longer feeling decision fatigue". Robyn following a Colour Analysis.
